Traditional Quebec recipe: Moose Shepherd's Pie. A classic wild game dish from the Quebec hunting tradition.

Ingredients

  • 750 g ground moose meat
  • 1 chopped onion
  • 2 minced garlic cloves
  • 1 can creamed corn(398 ml)
  • 1 can drained kernel corn(341 ml)
  • 6 large potatoes, peeled and cut
  • 80 ml warm milk
  • 3 tbsp butter
  • 1 Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 Paprika for garnish

Instructions

    Cook potatoes in salted boiling water. Mash them with milk and butter.

    Brown the ground meat with onion and garlic. Season with salt and pepper.

    Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).

    Spread the meat mixture in the bottom of a 9x13 inch dish.

    Cover with kernel corn, then with creamed corn.

    Spread the mashed potatoes on top. Create ridges with a fork.

  7. 7

    Sprinkle with paprika.

  8. 8

    Bake for 30 minutes, then broil for 5 minutes until golden.
