Ingredients

  • 500 ml flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp ground ginger
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 tsp ground cloves
  • 1 1/4 tsp salt
  • 125 ml softened butter
  • 125 ml sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 125 ml molasses

    Cream together butter and sugar. Add the egg and molasses.

    Mix flour, baking soda, spices, and salt. Incorporate into the wet ingredients.

    Refrigerate dough for 1 hour.

    Form 2 cm balls and roll them in sugar.

    Place on a baking sheet and flatten slightly.

    Bake at 175°C (350°F) for 10-12 minutes. They will soften as they cool.
